Pico Solar Sails Shielding Sunlight at L1
Sunshades at Lagrange 1 can cool the planet. Many types of L1 sunshades are possible, including solar sails.
Described herein are Pico Solar Sails with an area of about one square meter. Also described is a Mass Launch System capable of deploying trillions of Pico Sails at L1. Pico Solar Sails launched by the MLS are a possible end-to-end solution to climate change.
This website is the home of the Small Sail Working Group, dedicated to building prototype Pico Solar Sails and testing them on the space station. The goal is to provide an early demonstration of feasibility, without launch costs.
